За все годы своего правления Путин ни разу не принимал участия в публичных дебатах. Трамп на одних только выборах 2016 участвовал в одиннадцати республиканских дебатах и трех дебатах с Хиллари Клинтон. Тема России и Путина возникала неоднократно, включая знаменитую перепалку "No puppet! You are the puppet!", которая дала название этому сообществу.

Интересно проследить за ответами нашего персонажа на дебатные вопросы. Ниже предлагается пять фрагментов из республиканских дебатов. Упражнение: прочитать вопрос, подумать над ответом, потом прочитать ответ Трампа.

BAIER: Welcome back to Cleveland. Our next topic is foreign policy. Candidates, you may not have seen the late developing news today our Fox Pentagon team broke earlier this evening about a top Iranian general traveling to Moscow to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

His name is General Qassem Soleimani, he's blamed for hundreds of U.S. troops death in Iraq, and Afghanistan. His trip to Russia appears to directly violate U.N. Security Council resolutions to confine him to Iran.

So, Mr. Trump, if you were president, how would you respond to this?

Отметим, что вопрос был про то, что Путин нарушил резолюцию СБ ООН, пригласив генерала Сулеймани в Москву. В своем ответе Трамп ни разу не упоминает Путина и переводит весь разговор на Иран.

TRUMP: I would be so different from what you have right now. Like, the polar opposite. We have a president who doesn't have a clue. I would say he's incompetent, but I don't want to do that because that's not nice. But if you look at the deals we make, whether it's the nuclear deal with 24 hour periods -- and by the way, before you get to the 24 hours, you have to go through a system. You look at Sgt. Bergdahl, we get Bergdahl, a traitor, and they get five of the big, great killers leaders that they want. We have people in Washington that don't know what they're doing. Now, with Iran, we're making a deal, you would say, we want him. We want out our prisoners. We want all these things, and we don't get anything. We're giving them $150 billion dollars plus, they are going to be -- I'll tell you what, if Iran was a stock, you folks should go out and buy it right now because you'll quadruple -- this, what's happening in Iran, is a disgrace, and it's going to lead to destruction in large portions of the world.

TAPPER: Russia is sending troops and tanks into Syria right now to prop up a U.S. enemy, Bashar al-Assad. President Obama's incoming top general says, quote, "Russia presents the greatest threat to our national security."

Mr. Trump, you say you can do business with President Vladimir Putin, you say you will get along, quote, "very well." What would you do right now if you were president, to get the Russians out of Syria?

Отметим, что вопрос сложный, но ставится конкретно: как заставить Путина убраться из Сирии? Своим ответом Трамп дает понять, что не видит никакой проблемы в том, что Путин воюет в Сирии и поддерживает Асада, и что он лично собирается с Путиным прекрасно поладить.

TRUMP: So, number one, they have to respect you. He has absolutely no respect for President Obama. Zero. Syria's a mess. You look at what's going on with ISIS in there, now think of this: we're fighting ISIS. ISIS wants to fight Syria. Why are we fighting ISIS in Syria? Let them fight each other and pick up the remnants.

I would talk to him. I would get along with him. I believe -- and I may be wrong, in which case I'd probably have to take a different path, but I would get along with a lot of the world leaders that this country is not getting along with.

I will get along -- I think -- with Putin, and I will get along with others, and we will have a much more stable -- stable world.

TAPPER: So, you -- just to clarify, the only answer I heard to the question I asked is that you would -- you would reach out to Vladimir Putin, and you would do what? You would...

TRUMP: I believe that I will get along -- we will do -- between that, Ukraine, all of the other problems, we won't have the kind of problems that our country has right now with Russia and many other nations.

BARTIROMO: Mr. Trump, in 2012 debate, President Obama mocked Mitt Romney's assertion that Russia was the top geopolitical challenge facing the United States, saying he was a Cold War dinosaur. Now, Russia has invaded Ukraine, and has put troops in Syria. You have said you will have a good relationship with Mr. Putin. So, what does President Trump do in response to Russia's aggression?

Казалось бы, вопрос поставлен так, что для Трампа не остается ничего другого, как осудить Россию за агрессию. Не тут-то было! Трамп сначала зачем-то переводит разговор на Северную Корею (которая до сих пор в агрессии не замечена), потом 100% поддерживает агрессию Путина в Сирии, после чего заявляет, что США не нанимались защищать Украину, есть дела и поважнее.

TRUMP: Well, first of all, it's not only Russia. We have problems with North Korea where they actually have nuclear weapons. You know, nobody talks about it, we talk about Iran, and that's one of the worst deals ever made. One of the worst contracts ever signed, ever, in anything, and it's a disgrace. But, we have somebody over there, a madman, who already has nuclear weapons we don't talk about that. That's a problem.

China is a problem, both economically in what they're doing in the South China Sea, I mean, they are becoming a very, very major force. So, we have more than just Russia. But, as far as the Ukraine is concerned, and you could Syria -- as far as Syria, I like -- if Putin wants to go in, and I got to know him very well because we were both on 60 Minutes, we were stablemates, and we did very well that night. But, you know that. But, if Putin wants to go and knocked the hell out of ISIS, I am all for it, 100%, and I can't understand how anybody would be against it... They blew up a Russian airplane. He cannot be in love with these people. He's going in, and we can go in, and everybody should go in.

As far as the Ukraine is concerned, we have a group of people, and a group of countries, including Germany -- tremendous economic behemoth -- why are we always doing the work? We are -- I'm all for protecting Ukraine and working -- but, we have countries that are surrounding the Ukraine that aren't doing anything. They say, "Keep going, keep going, you dummies, keep going. Protect us..." And we have to get smart. We can't continue to be the policeman of the world. We are $19 trillion dollars, we have a country that's going to hell, we have an infrastructure that's falling apart. Our roads, our bridges, our schools, our airports, and we have to start investing money in our country.

DICKERSON: Mr. Trump, you were mentioned here. You did say that you could get along very well with Vladimir Putin. You did at one point say let Russia take care of ISIS...

Не очень понятно, какой вопрос Дикерсон собирался задать, потому что Трамп бросился отвечать, не дожидаясь вопроса. Он говорит, что победа над ИГИЛ - это главное, а на действия России лучше не обращать внимания, а то, неровен час, доиграемся до третьей мировой войны. Первое дебатное упоминание про комплимент Путина.

TRUMP: Putin called me a genius, I like him so far, I have to tell you. Let me just tell you this.

You got to fight ISIS first. You fight ISIS first. Right now you have Russia, you have Iran, you have them with Assad, and you have them with Syria. You have to knock out ISIS. They're chopping off heads. These are animals. You have to knock em out. You have to knock them off strong. You decide what to do after, you can't fight two wars at one time. You'll end up with world war three...

RUBIO: And Vladimir Putin, who you've expressed admiration for, Donald...

TRUMP: Wrong. Wrong.

RUBIO: You've expressed admiration for him.

TRUMP: Wrong.

RUBIO: Donald, you said he's a strong leader.

TRUMP: Wrong.

RUBIO: He is now dividing Europe up...

TRUMP: He said very good things about me, and I said...

RUBIO: All right, I'm going to finish my statement here.

TRUMP: Yeah, finish.

RUBIO: And he's also sowing instability in the Middle East. <...>

Здесь Рубио обвиняет Трампа в том, что тот восхищается Путиным и получает в ответ знаменитое "wrong". Казалось бы, у Трампа есть шанс высказаться про Путина критически и снять с себя обвинения, но своим ответом он только подтверждает свое восхищение.

TRUMP: Let me just tell you, first of all, I've been hearing this man so long talking about Putin. Putin said about me -- I didn't say about Putin -- Putin said very nice things about me. And I say very nicely, wouldn't it be nice if actually we could get along with Russia, we could get along with foreign countries, instead of spending trillions and trillions of dollars?
