Special Counsel Robert Mueller has issued subpoenas to a former lawyer for Paul Manafort and to Manafort's current spokesman, an aggressive tactic that suggests an effort to add pressure on the former Trump campaign chairman. The subpoenas seeking documents and testimony were sent to Melissa Laurenza, an attorney with the Akin Gump law firm who until recently represented Manafort, and to Jason Maloni, who is Manafort's spokesman, according to people familiar with the matter.

Rinat Akhmetshin, the lobbyist and former Soviet army officer who met senior Trump campaign aides at a controversial meeting last year, has given evidence before a grand jury investigation, according to two people familiar with the matter.  Mr Akhmetshin gave testimony under oath for several hours on August 11 in a sign that special counsel Robert Mueller is looking at the 2016 meeting as part of his investigation into links between Russia and Donald Trump’s election campaign.

Mr. Akhmetshin told journalists that he was a longtime acquaintance of Paul J. Manafort, who served as a high-paid consultant to Mr. Yanukovych for years before becoming chairman of the Trump campaign. Jason Maloni, a spokesman for Mr. Manafort, said, “Paul doesn’t know and hasn’t worked with the man.”

Special counsel Robert Mueller’s team is working with New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman on its investigation into Paul Manafort and his financial transactions, according to several people familiar with the matter. The cooperation is the latest indication that the federal probe into President Donald Trump’s former campaign chairman is intensifying. It also could potentially provide Mueller with additional leverage to get Manafort to cooperate in the larger investigation into Trump’s campaign, as Trump does not have pardon power over state crimes.

Это интересно, во-первых, потому, что Шнейдерман давно копает под Трампа и Манафорта их финансовые махинации. А, во-вторых, потому, что, как говорится в приведенной цитате, на дела, заведенные на уровне штата, не распространяется право президентского помилования. Таким образом у Мюллера появляется дополнительный рычаг для давления на Манафорта с целью склонить того к сотрудничеству со следствием.



Трамп и его дети были названы ключевыми свидетелями в иске к Феликсу Саттеру о мошенничестве и уклонении от уплаты налогов, который был подан в суд штата Нью-Йорка. Больше об этом иске пока не было слышно.

The suit says Sater and other defendants owe at least $7 million in New York state income taxes, a sum that would be tripled if they prevail.

Special counsel Bob Mueller has teamed up with the IRS. According to sources familiar with his investigation into alleged Russian election interference, his probe has enlisted the help of agents from the IRS’ Criminal Investigations unit.
This unit—known as CI—is one of the federal government’s most tight-knit, specialized, and secretive investigative entities. Its 2,500 agents focus exclusively on financial crime, including tax evasion and money laundering. A former colleague of Mueller’s said he always liked working with IRS’ special agents, especially when he was a U.S. Attorney.

В интервью FT Ахметшин вновь упоминает о папочке с компроматом, которую Весельницкая принесла в Trump Tower.

Akhmetshin said he did not read the papers about Hillary Clinton’s campaign funding that Veselnitskaya took to the meeting, but he had seen the Russian version of it before. He says the lawyer developed it with the help of private corporate intelligence and that it was about “how bad money ended up in Manhattan and that money was put into supporting political campaigns”.
