Полным ходом идет подготовка к встрече Трампа и Путина в Гамбурге во время G-20. Трамп настоял на полноценной двухсторонней встрече вместо мимолетной встречи в кулуарах. Он также приказал подготовить список контрибуций.

Donald Trump has told White House aides to come up with possible concessions to offer as bargaining chips in his planned meeting next week with Vladimir Putin, according to two former officials familiar with the preparations. National security council staff have been tasked with proposing “deliverables” for the first Trump-Putin encounter, including the return of two diplomatic compounds Russians were ordered to vacate by the Obama administration in response to Moscow’s interference in the 2016 election, the former officials said. It is not clear what Putin would be asked to give in return.

Пока что в качестве канала связи Москву посетил 94-летний Генри Киссинджер, на которого в своем выступлении на «Примаковских чтениях» сослался Сергей Лавров:

"Рассчитываем, что встреча президентов В.В.Путина и Д.Трампа в Гамбурге, о которой было объявлено, внесет ясность в вопрос о перспективах российско-американского взаимодействия. Лично я искренне надеюсь, что возобладает прагматизм, нацеленность на обеспечение национальных интересов реалистичными и наиболее эффективными методами. Именно такой подход всегда отличал «патриарха» американской внешней политики и большого друга Е.М.Примакова Г.Киссинджера, который вместе с нами сегодня участвует в этих очень важных «Примаковских чтениях»."

Отвечая на вопросы журналистов, Лавров продемонстрировал осведомленность в американской внутренней политике, вбросил по ходу какиевашидоказательства и, продолжая российскую дипломатическую традицию, рассказал непереводимый анекдот про Чапаева.

"Но в США сейчас царит такая атмосфера, идет такая «охота на ведьм», что никто не хочет делать то, что в иной атмосфере считалось бы совершенно нормальным, а в нынешней атмосфере будет воспринято как то, что ты «ведьма». Во многом люди были запуганы, но я думаю, что это пройдет, что это абсолютная аномалия, происходящая сейчас в политической жизни США, когда не предъявляя ни одного доказанного факта, по большому счету пытаются переиграть итоги выборов, не может долго продолжаться."

По официальным сообщениям, однако, непонятно, о чем собственно Путин и Трамп собираются разговаривать во время своей встречи.

“We have no specific agenda,” national security adviser H.R. McMaster told reporters during a briefing on the trip, which includes a stop in Warsaw. “It’s whatever the president wants to talk about.” <...> “Our relationship with Russia is no different than any other country,” McMaster said.

С последним утверждением Макмастера про "no different than any other country" не согласны его бывшие коллеги в Пентагоне. В новом докладе Разведывательного управления Минобороны США говорится "Moscow undoubtedly views the United States and its NATO partners as the principle threat to Russian security, its geo-political ambitions, and most importantly, the Kremlin’s continued hold on power." Там же описывается использование российской армией пропаганды и хакеров в качестве инструментов влияния во враждебных странах.

Moscow believes its leader, ex-spy master Vladimir Putin, can extract major concessions from President Donald Trump when the two meet for the first time next week, European officials tell The Daily Beast.
The officials say their intelligence indicates Putin thinks he can outmaneuver Trump at the G-20 summit, playing on promises of cooperation on areas like counterterrorism to win concessions like a reduction in the raft of sanctions against Russia.
