Вчера в Сенате при обсуждении вопроса о членстве Черногории в НАТО Джон Маккейн призвал поддержать этот вопрос консенсусом. Его план нарушил Рэнд Пол, который высказался против и без объяснений покинул зал. Раздражённый Маккейн сказал: "the senator from Kentucky is now working for Vladimir Putin".

Маленькая страна Черногория - одна из многих других, куда дотянулись щупальца путинских спецслужб. В попытке предотвратить ее присоединение к НАТО агенты ГРУ планировали прошлой осенью неудавшийся путч  с покушением на премьер-министра.

Montenegro is to indict a top Russian spy it accuses of masterminding a failed plot to topple its pro-western government and stop the tiny Balkan nation from joining Nato. Eduard Shishmakov, 46, a captain in the Russian navy who was exposed as an agent for GRU military intelligence, is accused of running a network of former military officers and paramilitaries from Montenegro and neighbouring Serbia involved in preparing the alleged coup last October.

Одно из примечательных явлений на выборах 2016 - реди крупнейших газет, которые поддержали Хиллари Клинтон, оказались многие давние бастионы консерватизма, которые никогда раньше в своей истории не поддерживали демократического кандидата, и на всех предыдущих выборах неизменно поддерживали республиканцев. При этом только одно печатное издание с тиражом больше 75 тысяч поддержало Трампа: National Enquirer.

Удивительные слова поддержки для Клинтон поступили из некоторых журналов.



1. Журнал The Atlantic сделал это в третий раз в своей истории. Два предыдущих раза: Авраам Линкольн и Линдон Джонсон.

In its founding statement, The Atlantic promised that it would be “the organ of no party or clique,” and our interest here is not to advance the prospects of the Democratic Party, nor to damage those of the Republican Party. If Hillary Clinton were facing Mitt Romney, or John McCain, or George W. Bush, or, for that matter, any of the leading candidates Trump vanquished in the Republican primaries, we would not have contemplated making this endorsement. We believe in American democracy, in which individuals from various parties of different ideological stripes can advance their ideas and compete for the affection of voters. But Trump is not a man of ideas. He is a demagogue, a xenophobe, a sexist, a know-nothing, and a liar. He is spectacularly unfit for office, and voters—the statesmen and thinkers of the ballot box—should act in defense of American democracy and elect his opponent.

2. Журнал Foreign Policy сделал это впервые в своей полувековой истории. На всех других выборах до этого он исправно избегал занимать стороны в политике.

Hillary Clinton is a quality candidate who is unquestionably well-prepared to lead this country. What is more, we do not think it is a small thing that by her election she will be righting a deep wrong that has compromised U.S. democracy since its inception: the exclusion of women from its highest offices. Were she to be elected as this country’s first woman president, not only would it be historic and send an important signal about both inclusiveness and Americans’ commitment to electing candidates who have distinguished themselves on their merits, but she would enter office having already put down one great threat to the United States of America — the grotesque and deeply disturbing prospect of a Donald Trump presidency.

Между тем National Enquirer вписался за Трампа не на шутку. Они даже, возможно впервые в своей истории, заплатили хорошие деньги за скандальную сальную историю не для того, чтобы ее напечатать, а для того, чтобы ее замять.
