Alptekin is charged with conspiracy, acting in the United States as an illegal agent of the government of Turkey, and four counts of making false statements to the FBI. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of 5 years in prison for the conspiracy charge, 10 years in prison for the charge of acting as an agent of a foreign government, and 5 years in prison for each of the four false statement charges.

Flynn helped Kian land a spot on the transition, where he prepared incoming CIA nominee Mike Pompeo for his confirmation hearing and pushed a number of policy proposals, including fighting a potential threat from electromagnetic pulses, or EMPs. Pompeo has recently been named secretary of state.
Another controversial and previously unreported proposal Flynn and Kian promoted was to hire private security contractors to collect information around the globe, then sidestep the CIA and provide the intelligence directly to the national security adviser, according to people who worked with them on the transition. Flynn couldn’t hold his administration job long enough to shepherd those plans into action.

Date: 2018-12-18 04:48 pm (UTC)Zamel had apparently been introduced to Flynn by Bijan Kian, Flynn Intel Group’s former vice chairman of its board of directors, according to one source. Kian had been a partner at Flynn Intel Group and served as point man on Flynn’s discussions with Zamel.

"Слухи, распространяемые с подачи минюста США, о том, что скончавшийся 3 января 2016 года Герой России генерал-полковник Игорь Дмитриевич Сергун находился в Ливане, - конспирологический бред. Игорь Дмитриевич в январе 2016 года находился в России", - сказали во вторник в Минобороны.
Сергун умер 3 января 2016 года, ему было 58 лет. Как сообщало Минобороны, генерал умер в подмосковном доме отдыха ФСБ "Москвич" после обширного инфаркта.

Perhaps the highest-profile visit came in June 2013, when Sergun invited Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, for a three-day visit to Moscow. Following a trail carefully blazed by several predecessors, Flynn laid a wreath at Russia’s Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and visited the GRU’s ultra-modern headquarters outside Moscow. There he gave a unique hour-long address on leadership and intelligence to a conference room full of young GRU officers who, judging by their questions, clearly had never before encountered an American intelligence general.
Finally, Flynn hosted an unprecedented dinner for his counterpart in my residence at the U.S. Embassy. The GRU director arrived with two generals and an interpreter. It must have been bemusing for them to go through U.S. Embassy security onto U.S. soil for the first time. Always inquisitive, Sergun showed particular interest in a colorful Leroy Neiman print titled “Red Square.” The customary toasts were hoisted, though Sergun himself was a modest drinker. The last toast called for making “the airlocks fit,” an allusion to the extraordinary Apollo–Soyuz link-up in 1975 during the heart of the Cold War, and an allegory for improving relations. He liked that. All departed with U.S. Embassy baseball caps for their children. The following night Sergun hosted our U.S. delegation at the venerable Sovietsky Hotel, where he gave us a personal tour of Stalin’s time-warped suite upstairs.

According to the March 14, 2016, Report of Investigation, Mr. Kian told investigators that he had been a “Friend/Professional Colleague” of General Flynn since 2008; “that FLYNN has traveled to the Middle East, Europe, Africa, Japan, and Russia for pleasure and work”; and “that FLYNN would have work related foreign person contacts.” Additionally, the Report stated that Mr. Kian “advised that FLYNN would have professional work relationships with foreign businesses,” but that “FLYNN did not have foreign government connections.”
In today’s letter, Cummings requested all documents and communications referring or relating to General Flynn’s “work related foreign person contacts,” “professional work relationships with foreign businesses,” and foreign travel.
