In 2016, cyber actors affiliated with the Russian Government conducted an unprecedented, coordinated cyber campaign against state election infrastructure. Russian actors scanned databases for vulnerabilities, attempted intrusions, and in a small number of cases successfully penetrated a voter registration database. This activity was part of a larger campaign to prepare to undermine confidence in the voting process. The Committee has not seen any evidence that vote tallies were manipulated or that voter registration information was deleted or modified.

Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Richard Burr (R-N.C.) said Tuesday that he plans for the panel to begin to wrap up its investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election in August, when the Senate leaves for a monthlong recess.
"This gives staff the month of August in all likelihood to wrap up our investigation and for staff to work intensely while we're out of here and not getting in their hair," Burr told reporters.
The committee's assessment of whether or not there was any evidence of coordination or collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia will be part of that final work, he said.

В администрации Трампа компетентный профессионал на своём месте - большая редкость.
С другой стороны, трудно обойти стороной связь Хаспел с позорной историей о пытках в тайных тюрьмах ЦРУ. Ее личное участие в этом преувеличено, а пытки были узаконены администрацией Буша и проводились под давлением этой администрации. Более того, говорить, что пытки никогда не работают, а только заставляют людей оговаривать себя и других, было бы фактически неверно. Пытки глубоко аморальны и запрещены американскими и международными законами, но в редких случаях могут приносить информацию.
Тем не менее от Хаспел на слушаниях требовалось, как минимум, решительно размежеваться с историей пыток и осудить их как аморальную практику. Она с этой задачей не справилась. Джон Маккейн, для которого это больная тема, после этого выступил против ее утверждения на должность.

She could, perhaps, still disperse that shadow with a clear statement that the actions of the past were wrong. Failing that, the Senate should not confirm her as director of the CIA.

Reed: It does not seem to be a hypothetical. People have alleged that that has happened already.
