Former Bonanno capo Generoso (Jimmy the General) Barbieri was in jail when he learned then-boss Vincent (Vinny Gorgeous) Basciano was planning to assassinate Assistant U.S. Attorney Greg Andres. Barbieri contacted the feds and later testified against Basciano at two trials, which led to his convictions. Barbieri served six years in prison before being released on bail.

2. Гейтс очень много знает. Как правая рука Манафорта, он знает о деятельности Манафорта как в Украине, так и во время работы на Трампа. Но после отставки Манафорта из избирательной кампании Гейтс оставался там еще долгое время, в качестве заместителя Бэннона путешествовал с Трампом на его самолете и участвовал в работе переходной команды после выборов. Главной задачей, которую решил Манафорт, было довести Трампа до официальной номинации и подобрать ему подходящего вице-президента. Гейтс отвечал за связь с RNC, которая стала особенно важной после номинации.

Mr. Gates was present for the most significant periods of the campaign, as Mr. Trump began forging policy positions and his digital campaign operation engaged with millions of voters on social media platforms such as Facebook. Even after Mr. Manafort was fired by Mr. Trump in August 2016, Mr. Gates remained with the campaign at the request of Stephen K. Bannon, who took over as head of the campaign.
From there, Mr. Gates assumed a different role — as a liaison between the campaign and the Republican National Committee — and traveled aboard the Trump plane through Election Day.
In addition to offering visibility into the Trump campaign, Mr. Gates might be able to provide prosecutors with glimpses into decision-making in the months after Mr. Trump’s election victory. Mr. Gates was a consultant on the transition team, and in the months after the inauguration, he worked with America First Policies, the main outside group supporting the Trump presidency.

3. На Гейтса и Манафорта навесили длинный паровоз обвинений в финансовых преступлениях. Речь идет о долгих годах в тюрьме, которые Гейтсу теперь удастся скостить или даже заменить на условный срок при условии успешного сотрудничества. Возможное президентское помилование не поможет, потому что за многие из этих преступлений (вроде уклонения от уплаты налогов) можно преследовать на уровне штата. Чем больше Манафорт упорствует, отказываясь признавать вину и идти на сотрудничество, тем более печальная участь его ждет в итоге.

Сбываются пророческие слова Бэннона:

“You realize where this is going,” Bannon continued. “This is all about money laundering. Mueller chose Weissmann first and he is a money laundering guy. Their path to fucking Trump goes right through Paul Manafort, Don Jr., and Jared Kushner . . . It’s as plain as a hair on your face. . . . It goes through all the Kushner shit. They’re going to roll those two guys up and say play me or trade me. But . . . ‘executive privilege!’ ” Bannon mimicked. “ ‘We’ve got executive privilege!’ There’s no executive privilege! We proved that in Watergate.”

4. Прояснилось, почему Гейтса покинули адвокаты. Когда Мюллер предложил ему сделку “Queen for a Day” с единственным условием не врать при даче показаний, тот не удержался и соврал. Это стало новым обвинением, в которым тот признал себя виновным. Другим свидетелям посылается ясный сигнал: не врать, а то будет хуже.

Комментаторы быстро вычислили, что встреча в марте 2013, о которой соврал в своих показанияюх Гейтс, включала нашего старого знакомого, любимого путинского конгрессмена Дейну Рорабейкера. На встрече обсуждалась Украина.

Former Trump campaign aide Rick Gates just admitted to lying to U.S. investigators about a March 19, 2013, meeting between his boss, Paul Manafort, and an unidentified U.S. congressman. Public filings show a meeting that day between Manafort and Dana Rohrabacher, a Russia-friendly Republican congressman from California.
Gates pleaded guilty Friday to conspiracy against the U.S. and making false statements about a meeting that day. In a criminal information unsealed Friday, he admitted that he’d withheld that the meeting included a discussion of Ukraine, where he and Manafort had done political consulting work.



Другим участником встречи был бывший республиканский конгрессмен из Миннесоты, а ныне вашингтонский лоббист Vin Weber. Вебер близко знаком с Манафортом по работе в республиканском руководстве. В 2001-2008 Вебер был председателем организации NED (National Endowment for Democracy). С 2015 года NED запрещена в России на фоне паранойи по поводу ее вклада в развитие демократии в Украине.



5. Криминальная работа Манафорта и Гейтса на Януковича включала в себя подкуп европейских политиков, чтобы с их помощью, а также задействовав американских лоббистов, попытаться улучшить имидж Януковича на Западе, в частности отмазать его от обвинений в том, что преследование Юлии Тимошенко было по политическим мотивам. На эту деятельность через подствавные компании были израсходованы миллионы долларов.

First, two Washington-based firms hired by Manafort and Gates in 2012 to act as lobbyists were told they would be “representing the government of Ukraine.” The indictment doesn’t name the firms, though previous reporting suggests these are likely to be the Podesta Group and Mercury. The firms set about lobbying members of Congress on issues such as sanctions against the Ukraine, the validity of the country’s elections, and Timoshenko’s imprisonment.
Those who are paid to do that kind of lobbying by a foreign power must register with the US government as “foreign agents,” under a system designed to reveal any paid political motivations. Instead, the firms allegedly acted as if they were representing the Brussels-based Center for a Modern Ukraine, a bogus organization set up by Yanukovych’s regime in 2012. To pay the firms, Manafort and his number two Rick Gates wired them more than $2 million from offshore shell companies in noted money-laundering hubs Cyprus and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Neither Mercury nor Podesta has been charged in the probe.
Barack Obama’s State department had condemned Timoshenko’s imprisonment, so Manafort and Gates hired a law firm to write a report on whether the case was legitimate. The law firm is unnamed in the indictment but would seem to be top New York outfit Skadden Arps, which allegedly wrote a “whitewash” of the imprisonment. The indictment says Manafort and Gates secretly wired the law firm $4 million from an offshore account—money that allegedly wasn’t disclosed in the report. Manafort and Gates then hired a third lobbying firm to roll out the report, paying them $1 million from an offshore account.
Finally, they hired a former chancellor of a European country to lead what they called the “Hapsburg group.” This was a “SUPER VIP” cabal of top European ex-politicians, who headed to the US to lobby more members of Congress and the executive branch. Manafort created a nongovernment agency that they would nominally work for, while acting at his “quiet direction.” He allegedly paid these politicians more than 2 million euros via four offshore accounts.
