Новость дня - стало известно, что рано утром 26 июля, сотрудники ФБР провели неожиданный рейд с обыском у Пола Манафорта. Первая публикация - в Washington Post.

Federal agents appeared at Paul Manafort’s home without advance warning in the predawn hours of July 26, the day after he met voluntarily with the staff for the Senate Intelligence Committee.
The search warrant was wide-ranging and FBI agents working with special counsel Robert S. Mueller III departed the home with various records.

Mueller III, recently searched the Northern Virginia home of President Trump’s former campaign manager, Paul Manafort, for tax documents and foreign banking records, a sign that the inquiry into Mr. Manafort has broadened, according to a person briefed on the matter.

ABC News сообщает драматические подробности: группа сотрудников ФБР открыла наружную дверь и разбудила Манафорта стуком в дверь его спальни.

According to a source familiar with the investigation, Manafort was awoken by a group of armed FBI agents knocking on his bedroom door as they executed the warrant on July 26.

Получение судебного ордера на обыск требует предоставления весомых оснований считать, что по месту обыска находятся материальные свидетельства федерального преступления, и конкретного списка этих свидетельств. Использование обыска вместо повестки, а также выбор времени и способа обыска указывают на то, что Мюллер и ФБР не доверяли тому, что Манафорт пойдет на добровольное сотрудничество и опасались, что он будет уничтожать свидетельства. Некоторые комментаторы подозревают, что Мюллер таким образом мог также посылать сигнал, чтобы спровоцировать реакцию пациента.

To get a federal search warrant, you have to show probable cause that the location you want to search contains evidence of a federal crime — specifically, the items you list as things you want to seize in the search. You don't have to show that the homeowner or other person at the site committed a crime, just that items there are evidence of a crime.
